First Impressions:

The My Father brand is well recognized and often produces highly rated cigars. With that being said, I haven’t smoked a My Father cigar in quite a long time and was tempted after a new shipment came through our doors. After gazing over the various shapes and sizes I was immediately drawn to the Cedros Deluxe Eminentes. The Cedros Deluxe is dressed in a branded sheath of cedarwood that covers a lovely oily Habano Rosado wrapper with Nicaraguan binder and filler. Smelling of rich tobacco and having a smooth outer texture, I had to light one up. Without further ado, lets see what this baby had in store.

First Third:

Upon lighting, I was immediately impressed with the smooth draw of dense smoke. If there is one thing that truly annoys me, it’s when I feel like I must vacuum smoke out from a cigar packed too tightly. As I exhaled my first puff and let smoke roll over my tongue, I was immediately hit with strong notes of pepper and wood. I usually enjoy retro haling on the first few puffs. This allows my senses to pick up on the full embodiment of flavor, but the peppery aftertaste can be a bit overpowering through the nose. As I began building an ash up and worked through the first third of the cigar, I began noticing some more flavor notes coming through.

Second Third:

When I reached about a third through the cigar, notes of leather became predominant with a black pepper aftertaste. As the oils began heating up, the smoke became more and more dense that really coated my palate with rich flavor. My lips did begin to tingle, and I was a bit more awake at this point as the strength of this cigar began to peak. It’s characterized as a medium to full bodied smoke, but I would tilt the scale in favor of being more full bodied. Though I had to say, for someone who is a fan of mild to medium creamy cigars, I was truly loving this stick. The construction, richness, and developing flavors really had me enjoying each puff.

Final Third:

As I continued smoking through two thirds of the cigar, I uncovered notes of sweetness and subtle hints of grass. The sweetness was on the side of a sweet spice like cinnamon or coriander while the strong leather notes turned from a meaty leather to a smooth earthy leather. The real surprise to me was the development of floral notes like a blend of aromatic herbs. I wouldn’t say the strength dissipated, but the intensity of the black pepper aftertaste was lessened. At this time the sun had began setting, and I was getting ready to set this cigar down and finish my review.

Final Impressions:

From strong notes of leather and pepper to subtle notes of sweet spice and floral undertones, the My Father Cedros Deluxe Eminentes was truly a great smoke in my opinion. Worth the praise I would whole heartily recommend this to those who love a full bodied blend rich in leather and spice. Being a mild to medium guy myself, I would even recommend it those who want to begin trying more full-bodied blends.
